Check a firm

  1. Search the CFTC register ↗ for the exact company name and licence number the broker gives you.
  2. Match the website and phone number on the register to the ones you were given. Clone firms copy real names.
  3. Read the CFTC warnings ↗ and our copy of 284 CFTC warnings.
  4. Also check IOSCO I-SCAN ↗, which gathers warnings from regulators worldwide.

Where to complain

  1. Complain to the firm first, in writing, and keep copies. Most schemes need this step.
  2. If it isn't fixed, go to NFA Arbitration ↗. Using it is free.
  3. Tell the regulator: CFTC contact and complaints ↗.
  4. If the firm isn't licensed by CFTC, these routes may not help. Report fraud to your local police too.

Watch out: after you complain online, "recovery" firms may contact you. Regulators and ombudsmen never charge to get money back. Read about recovery scams.
